Hotel and Travel Information

Participants should make their own arrangements for travel and book their own hotel rooms.

Amsterdam has many charms, but affordable hotel accomodation is not one of them and rooms tend to be expensive and smallish. One hotel we recommend is Hotel Rembrandt. It can easily be reached by tram number 9 from Central Station, and the tram stops right in front of the door. The stop is called ‘Artis-Plantage Kerklaan’. Single rooms are about 75 euros a night.

A second tram, number 14,  takes you from the stop in front of the hotel to a stop close to the workshop location. The stop where you should get off is called ‘Java Plein’.

Travelling in Amsterdam

You can buy tickets on the trams and buses. Bicyles can be rented from the bicycle shop at Central Station, among other places.

At Schiphol, you can very easily catch a train into Amsterdam. The platforms are directly underneath the main hall of the airport, and tickets can be bought from machines of couters in the main hall.  Trains take between 15 and 20 minutes to travel from Schiphol to Central Station and there is a train departing every 10 or 15 minutes. Do watch out for pickpockets.
